ABOUT: Nemadji Clay Pottery has an unusual history surrounded by myth and falsehoods. It is American Pottery made from clay that is painted using a dipping process into swirls of paint and ink. Sold as a tourist item, the company was started in 1923 by Scandinavian immigrants in the Arrowhead region of Minnesota. Eventually the last pot was produced in 2002. The company claimed the clay pots were made by Native Americans, the Ojibway tribe, out of regional clay. This was never actually true, however some do say the style and coloring is reminiscent of them.
